ORACAL 970RA Shift Effect - 988, green blue

Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Miller Decals has been in business for over 30 years! Jim Miller’s dad was a Little Debbie Snack Cake distributor in Arkansas in the 70’s. One of Jim’s tasks each year was to pop bubbles out of the decals on the side of the delivery truck with a needle and smooth them out. After a couple of years of doing this, Jim told his dad to tell the bakery to send the decals to them and he would figure out a way to put them on the truck. Miller Decals began in 1979 when Jim lined up his first decal on the side of his dad’s truck at the age of 15. There were several snack cake distributors in the area. Over the next several years Jim continued his work smoothing out the bubbles. What started back then as a small family business has since grown to include several employees. The team specializes in installing various vehicle graphics and signs of all types. Their work can be seen all over the southeastern United States and even in California, Arizona, Texas and more.

A while back the Miller Decals team wrapped an Aston Martin in ORACAL 970RA Green Blue Shift Effect and we couldn’t, and still can’t, look away. We contacted the shop with a few questions about the project and working with ORAFOL materials.

How long has Miller Decals been in business?

Miller decals started in 1979. Way before wraps were thought of. Fleet graphics were a thing back then.

What was your favorite part about this project?

We all love working on exotic vehicles so just having this beautiful vehicle in the shop to look at was our favorite thing.

What is your experience with ORAFOL?

We do a lot of work at trade shows for ORAFOL along with being featured on the Velocity series Unique Rides so we get our hands on a lot of your film! What do you like about it? I love the colors and finishes ORAFOL has to offer. The non directional color shift material is amazing and easy to work with.

What were the challenges when working on this project?

For this particular car picking just the right color to work with the red wheels and interior. We didn’t want to take the easy way out with black or red and when the customer saw this color it was sold! It worked great with the contrasting colors and turned out amazing. We love having customers that are well informed and knowledgeable about wrapping. Makes a project much more fun.

What is it like installing a wrap in the Georgia heat and humidity?

I would hate to think I had to deal with the elements when doing a proper color change. Our shop is climate controlled so it’s dry and 73 all the time. What are the challenges? Keeping pollen out during the spring is our biggest battle. It hides everywhere! The tiniest speck will cause us to re-wrap a whole panel.
